Yoga and Somatic Movement
Yoga
Group classes and one to one tuition.
What should you expect from one of my classes?
I teach a predominantly floor-based practice focusing on the spine and releasing tension from the hips, back, neck and shoulders…
I always incorporate some gentle but progressive exercises to develop the muscles that support the front of the spine, the abdomen and pelvic floor (the core).
We cultivate an awareness of the natural breath, and how refining the breath can support us during physical practice, as a relaxation aid and anchor during mediation.
I always encourage you to embrace your own experience, it is your body, and your yoga. I want my classes to be an opportunity to investigate, explore, and most importantly, enjoy movement.
If you have any personal health issues or injuries which you would like to discuss before trying a class, please get in touch. I teach a very accessible practice designed to encourage and empower my students.
Somatic Movement Sessions
My grounding is as a Somatic Movement Educator (MA).
What is somatics?
Somatics can be broken down into 3 main areas, each a discipline in its own right, however all three have overlapping elements in both theory and application. These areas are:
- Somatic Movement Education and Therapy
- Somatic Psychology
- Bodywork
What to expect from a somatic workshop with me.
The ‘goal’ of somatic work, so to speak, is to assist the individual into a greater sense of bodily awareness; their physical experience as felt through sensation, emotion, imagination and expression.
The sessions might be structured, using somatic ‘exercises’ to relieve pain or immobility, to explore range of motion and movement or postural habits and repatterning.
Or they may be more improvisational, following spontaneous impulses to move.
Depending on the unfolding of the work, sessions may include some touch or body work, and have space for some creative expression and verbal reflection.
Private Yoga Tuition / Yoga Therapy
60 minutes | £55
Private yoga sessions are ideal for those who can’t, for whatever reason, attend a group class, and those requiring a modified practice, are rehabilitating an injury, or want to explore their personal yoga journey with the sole attention of a teacher.
Somatic Movement Sessions
60 minutes | £55
Somatic Movement practice can be approached from a number of different starting points. The sessions are ideal for injury rehabilitation, postural analysis, moving with ease, managing pain, developing an expanded awareness of one’s movement patterns as well as improving the quality, function and pleasure of movement. They can also be used alongside other sports to develop technique. Somatic Movement Sessions can also be explored as a moving meditation, cultivating awareness of the body as a whole SOMA- integrating the physical, cognitive, imaginative, emotional and energetic or spiritual elements of our personhood using spontaneous, creative, non judgemental movement and expressive practices.
